Over the last two women’s international football tournaments the popularity and thirst for women’s football in the UK has grown rapidly. Even more so off the back of the later of the two tournaments when the Lionesses emphatically won the Euro’s this summer.
Riding on the slipstream of this new found – and very long overdue – desire for the women’s game are Chilmington Green Football Club. A new team in Ashford who are entering the South East Counties Women’s Football League – Tier 7 of the women’s football pyramid – next season.
With a rapidly growing following they are only the 2nd independent women’s football club in Ashford.
Why start with a women’s team? Because they finally deserve their turn in the spotlight. For far too long it has been the men’s team that has been football clubs’ main team. All other team come below this or as a ‘side project’. To further emphasise the fact that the women’s team is the main team, the club haven’t made any reference to them being a women’s team on their badge, aside from a subtle proud nod to the fact with 2 small female silhouettes.
Women’s football is very much on the rise. In fact the women’s game is now more a case of ‘get on board or get out of the way!’ Chilmington Green Football Club are looking for sponsors and volunteers to be a part of the women’s football revolution and join the club.
